chill out . . . Feb 19, 2015

ROTARY BULLETIN
February 19, 2015

School vacation week sent many of us to the villas, chalets and golden beaches while the polar vortex maintained its sixteen degree grip on the strivers forced to toil in New Canaan.  Nevertheless, a quorum of nine was present when Prexy Eric commenced things with a gong and thoughtful blessing.  In due course, we numbered enough to occupy three tables.

When Eric announced today's meeting was a quarterly assembly, it was too late to escape.  In fact, one cell phone levitated and said owner answered and completed a conversation before nonchalantly retiring the device. Rob introduced our only guest, son James Avery, by now a veteran performer on the local stage.  Still auditioning for the slot, B.T. stepped up as Sgt@Arms.  He cited the saga of the misdirected Email which was as shaggy as any creature at the just concluded Westminster Kennel Club function.  Exhausted by the performance, he turned the plate over to Eric who coursed the room for alms.  Don
McIvor had a happy five, probably for his PHD granddaughter. Ben was delighted to report no doctor visits this week.  Rob was celebrating, too, and he tossed a fin.  Ann had a fin and a deuce because she was glad to be back.  More fives followed:  Fred for a new transmission ( not Sue's fault), Scott for Duke, B.T. for being Sgt@Arms, Lisa who is for keeping up appearances, and Skip for the passing of his brother.

Ben is proposing to embellish the wine and cheese event with a craft beer table. That idea started a chant for Charter Oak.  This led to a reprise of Sgt@Arms, only this time some details on the next Rotary  Means Business gathering in March at the NC Library.  It
is five bucks to attend but you get invited to share libations with attendees at a subsequent venue.

Well, we were promised an assembly, and, in a first, there was a printed agenda.  Item one. Finances.  Fortunately, Treasurer Tom, not being a striver, was not present.  Ditto for Keith and Brock, who might have said words about dictionaries and golf (May 7) outings.  Amy elaborated on the allocations committee of John, Tom.Eric, and Fred and their upcoming deliberations.  The silence was deafening when Eric asked for a fellowship dinner coordinator.  Finally, Bill Walbert raised his paddle, and Sandie cried with joy.  Now, we must scurry to anoint a webmaster.  Scott proposed Skip, who quickly demurred... Next Board meeting February 26, 2015.  All are welcome. Nuff banter for one day.
