ROTARY BULLETIN
August 21,2014
Dog Days Done for this summer. A perfectly beautiful day with the temperature at 72 degrees. Traffic on Oenoke was mostly New Yawkers who made crossing the road life threatening. Nevertheless, our band assembled for the 12:15 drill. led by Eric who took no chances delegating a blessing, which he delivered.
Chris Snyder introduced our guest, Seth Martin (Mr. Republican of Darien) who is his Leigh College classmate. Next, we had the auction of Ken Campbell's Friday tickets for the CT
Open tennis games in New Haven. No one whispered that Caroline Wozniacki was eliminated last night, but Scott Hobbs resumed his role as auctioneer and after fierce bidding surrendered the ducats to Chris Nyilas for the round sum of $110. Moving right along, Rob Avery pleaded for help at the pop up park either tonight or tomorrow from 6-9 to promote the Lobsterfest. Steve Risbridger came off the course to talk up the combined NC-Darien Chamber golf
Outing of September 18 at Woodway CC. Appropo to today's subject meeting, Eric reported that he and John Marlow had an edifying meeting with high school Principal Veronica Le Duc regarding enrollment of an exchange student

Still hoarse from the auction, Sgt@Arms Scott mimicked Henny Youngman with a riveting tale of the eighteen penguins in an old woodie wagon. The happy manna then flowed. Steve Risbridger had several twenties including a reference to a week in London with the family. Amy Wilkinson announced she would henceforth be the Grants manager for the Darien Community Foundation. Scott and John Engel fessed up to winning the CCNC golf classic last weekend. Lisa Oldham proudly tossed denero to celebrate her son's departure to University.
Acronym time. ROTEX, RYLA, ESSEX,INTERACT. Today's program was arranged by John Marlow, our own former exchange student (ROTEX). John brought in the guns from the State, including Justin Phillips, a ROTEX from the Westport Sunrise Club and the District's Youth Services Chair. David Wolfe is all things Youth in Monroe and an ROTEX from Brazil. Exhibit one was Erin O'Connell (ROTEX), from Wilton, who just returned from Ecuador. This lovely vivacious young lady is a perfect example of the program and its benefits. She charmed us with her account of living with two families and building the bonds for International Friendships. Like Alison Williams, she started auditioning for the part when she was three. learning Spanish at her mother's knee. Her exchange sister, Lucinda, from Chile, joined her at lunch. An exciting and motivating presentation and very well received.
