ROTARY BULLETIN
February 20, 2014
Well, you would have thought it was St. Patrick's Day. After two weeks of snowbound cabin fever, the frenzied litter descended on the South End for a joyous reunion with comrades and brethren. The elements were a bit dubious with a heavy drizzle, but once we negotiated the wool blanket at the front door, the atmosphere reverberated with warmth and good cheer. As our crew gathered at the bar and grazing table at the five thirty witching hour, we were surrounded by a bustling kitchen staff, which scampered about restocking an assortment of dishes. The bar staff maintained their decorum, while the winsome lasses proved they could pour with the best of them. The hour came and went with nary a bell in sight or an official "they're off" The event was timed to coincide with the mid-winter school break and included guests of all sorts. Regrettably, some dads missed the occasion because they were skiing with their families, though that did not include Leo. Though the lights were turned low to affect a magical atmosphere, certain rituals were observed. There was Lisa, parceling out copies of Nathaniel Philbrick's shipwreck survivors' tale "In the Heart of the Sea" Drs. Kevin and John were off in a corner discussing root canals. And Boris and Bennie began scheming to take over Zeckendorf's empire.
You get the idea. It was a fun time, and when the music faded, everyone crept back to their quarters to watch the Olympics with Bob Costas.
The next meeting will be at the Roger Sherman on the 27th, at which time we will receive our marching orders for the spring events.
