Our distinguished visitor of the day was Kristin McHenry, a member of the Exmoor Rotary Club in Devonshire. She brought along a banner from the club and her green card, just in case.
Roy Riggio introduced our speaker, Nes Jaffre who, with her husband Joseph, are the new innkeepers of the Roger Sherman. She gave a humorous talk about their decision to buy the Roger Sherman and the changes they plan to make. Helped along by frequent interruptions by Roy who acted as if he were a Vice Presidential Debate moderator, Nes held her own and described the following new developments:
- Introduction of a thoroughly French cuisine brought by Christophe, the chef from the Carlyle in New York City.
- Hiring a sous-chef for those of you who always wanted to know what sous tasted like (chicken).
- Bringing back a bar scene with an acoustic guitar player and moving all dining to the dining rooms..
- Banning piano music until the Inn gets a real grand piano, as she hates the present upright.
- No more Fondue nights, though so many of us have loved them.
- Provide for the option of a less formal menu. Now you will be able to order a hamburger and beer, which is quite a statement for a French restaurant. Just don't ask for Victory Fries.
- No more Rotary Christmas fundraiser meals because she and her husband, when they operated Le Chateau, were always open on Christmas Day. Members wondered aloud what it would be like to spend Christmas with their families again.
Speaking of near death experiences, Frank Bernardo reported that while he was biking in Darien last week, a car cut him off and he landed on its hood. He said that he was perfectly fine, but now had an overwhelming desire for Fondue. Tough luck Frank.
